The In Community Artist Residency is a new program in 2021 featuring 5 local artists doing community-focused projects, running from January 15 to July 30. It is made possible by the Edmonton Arts Council’s Connections and Exchanges Organizational Initiatives Grant.
In Community: An Artist Residency is an initiative to provide studio space, production, and financial resources to a cohort of up to 5 Edmonton Artists who will work toward community building as an element of their artistic practice and residency projects.
In Community” An Artist Residency responds to the needs of local artists and provides support to a vital Edmonton visual arts organization grappling with the impacts of COVID-19. The project positions contemporary visual art practice as a framework for connectivity above and beyond mere productivity. The “In Community” Artist Residency will allow space, time, and resources for artists to think through what being “in community” within their individual art practice means. Further, this residency will ask artists to reflect on what it means to be in community at a time when we can’t physically gather or share physical resources, and to consider what other resources will bring people together.
