SNAP is seeking community members to join our Board of Directors!

SNAP is seeking up to five new folks to join our Board of Directors as we approach our 2024 Annual General Meeting in June. If you have a passion or curiosity for printmaking and a dedication to artist-run-culture, we would love to connect with you!

Applicants with fundraising experience, legal/real estate experience (studio/gallery), and/or are interested in joining our Executive committee are of particular interest at this time. Successful candidates will get involved in key initiatives that are centered in accessible printmaking, inclusive learning, sustainable finances and facilities as we pursue our strategic five-year plan and implement our next steps.

The Board is responsible for SNAP’s governance with Directors championing our goals of artistic development, inclusive education and sustainable financial futures. Directors are elected by our membership for a minimum two-year term, which can be renewed. The role typically requires 5-10 volunteer hours per month, including attendance at monthly meetings, SNAP events, and involvement with specific committees. Applicants with prior board or printmaking experience are welcome, but not necessary.

We acknowledge SNAP’s position as part of a larger colonial system that has participated in the dispossession of First Nation, Metis, Inuit peoples in Amiskwaciwâskahikan, otherwise known as Edmonton (Beaver Hills House). We recognize that Artist-Run-Centres here – including SNAP- have long excluded Indigenous peoples and BIPOC voices. SNAP aims to redress this by continually working to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive printmaking experience situated in the O-day’min ward (heart berry- the heart through which the North Saskatchewan River runs). This means SNAP is actively foregrounding Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled, newcomer and working-class community members in our leadership and programming.

SNAP has a strong history of being a safe queer space to create, learn and exhibit outstanding printwork. Today, SNAP continues to bring folks from across Treaty 6 and Northern Alberta together to print and exhibit artwork that meaningfully reflects and expands print media. SNAP is committed to being here for the long run and Directors are key to bringing the heart-work and resourcefulness that in turn grows the next generation of print artists.

All applicants are welcome to express their interest in the media that best represents themselves (phone call, letter of interest, video…). Interest can be sent to our Community and Partnerships Committee at [email protected], and please add “Attn: Join Board” to the email subject line. Alternatively, you may call SNAP directly and be put in touch with Lindsey Bond, our Community & Partnerships Committee Chair. We recognize community members may face barriers when applying and if you require accommodations, please contact us by email [email protected] or phone (780-423-1492).

We can’t wait to connect with you!
