SNAP invites our members and invited guests to the opening reception of The Human Shop, January 9th, 2015.

South Korean artist Eunkang Koh starts SNAP’s 2015 season with an exhibition depicting society’s obsession with materialistic consumption.

Eunkang Koh creates animal-human hybrid characters that act as a metaphor and satire of human society and depict the normal reactions, desires, and insecurities we as a culture experience everyday in response to the consumer world.

She examines these aspects of our culture and exposes the absurdities of our consumption and how humans take on animal behaviours in order to fit in with our peers and achieve the rewards of consumption.

Using these satirical creature hybrid characters, The Human Shop is a collection of three-dimensional sculptures, art-books, and prints along with an installation of Smartphone cases donning the artist’s work.

Combining human and animal characteristics in The Human Shop, this exhibit expels the idea that human behaviour is different from animal behaviour; the creatures are symbolic of individuals who live choosing ignorance and believe only what they are shown.

Opening Reception: January 9th, 7-9 pm.

SNAP is happy to provide this programming at no cost to participants.

We hope you will consider making a donation to keep programs accessible in the future.
