In the Community Gallery, SNAP’s 2014 Emerging Artist in Residence, Brittney Roy presents a body of work created during her residency. Not My Clothes is a series of photographic portraits taken of different individuals clothing in their own home. By rummaging through people’s closets, hampers and piles on floors the artist recomposes the individual whose wardrobe has been ransacked. Carefully selecting items that represent the person, a portrait of each individual is created then photographed in a standing orientation, acting as an artifact of the individual and the necessity of clothing as a means for self-expression and protection.
Brittney Roy is a multidisciplinary visual artist from Edmonton, Alberta and received her BFA from the University of Alberta in 2012. Roy is a Founding Director for a new artist run centre, Creative Practices Institute and has taught at VASA: Visual Arts Studio Association St. Albert, the Centre for Autism Services, Grant MacEwan University, SNAP gallery, Harcourt House and is currently a lead artist at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts.

Opening Reception: October 24, 7-9 pm.
