The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) is pleased to announce the opening of Oh…Know, the first in a series of exhibitions and events that will celebrate SNAP’s 30th anniversary. Oh…Know is a dynamic exhibition featuring the work of two of SNAP’s founding members: Marc Siegner and Robin Smith-Peck. Both artists utilize printmaking as a means to layer and combine divergent visual languages in order to create complex and compelling compositions. Siegner’s current series of mixed-media pieces on panel are motivated by his recent experiences at the Red Gate residency in Beijing. The work combines photographic images of the community surrounding this residency, textile patterning, and diagrammatic drawing in order to explore themes of nostalgia, home, family and place. Similarly, Smith-Peck’s new prints bring together diagrams of industrial objects within layered visual fields made up of pattern, gestural marks, and abstract notations. This juxtaposition creates a poetic tension in which the viewer can consider how the activities of human labour can also be read as images reflecting the endeavours of the human heart. Taken together, the richness and diversity of Oh…Know provides audiences with an opportunity to experience and compare the work of two recognized print-artists.

Opening Reception & Artist’s Talk: February 16 at 7:00 pm. Reception to follow.

In the community gallery: Instructors’ Salon – a group exhibition by SNAP’s 2012 instructors.
