We asked youth about words they often use that they have to define for others. Here are some examples:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Used to describe someone or something that\u2019s mainstream or lacks originality.
\nEx: Did you see what she was wearing? She\u2019s so basic.<\/p>\n
Describes anything that looks really good or on point.
\nEx: Your new jeans are snatched.<\/p>\n
Used at the end of a sentence for emphasis, like a verbal exclamation mark.
\nEx: I didn\u2019t sleep at all last night. I\u2019m tired boots.<\/p>\n
Describes A) something that is amazing. or B) The state of being intoxicated. A verb used to endorse a romantic coupling, whether it is real or not. To be socially aware. Describes something that is high quality or trendy. Describes something is that shady or suspicious.
\nEx: A) That party was lit -or-<\/em> She bought me drinks all night \u2014 I got so lit<\/p>\n
\nShip<\/h3>\n
\nEx: I ship Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.<\/p>\n
\nWoke<\/h3>\n
\nEx: While you are obsessing with the Kardashians, there are millions of homeless in the world. STAY WOKE<\/p>\n
\nStraight fire<\/h3>\n
\nEx: That club last night was straight fire.<\/p>\n
\nSus<\/h3>\n
