2021 has been a year of recovery, of grief, and of sustained sorrow. A devastating news cycle of climate crises, ongoing global violence, and ever-widening wealth inequities. Traditionally a punchline is delivered as the third part of a joke—the part that makes us laugh—but sometimes we feel like the punchline never arrives. For our third publication of 2021, SNAPline released our first fully graphic edition to explore what gives us laughter in challenging times.
We asked artists and illustrators alike to take up the call and remind us of the small localized moments in our day-to-day lives, in our communities, and in our families and friendships that make us smile and laugh. We received a great response, and the final publication boasts work from 11 artists, and a featured print by the wonderful Pauline Johnson. The comic contributors for this issue are Blair Brennan, Michelle Campos Castillo, Digital_Dirt, Matt Dunlop, Teddy Edwards, Brad Fehr, Roger Garcia, Jacqueline Huskisson, Savanna Tries, Stephany Victorine, and Eve Salomons, with Chelsey Campbell illustrating the message from the Board, and Sergio Serrano illustrating the Message from the SNAPline Committee.
