Queen Mary Park Poster Project 2021

SNAP’s Queen Mary Park Poster Project, now in its second year, aims to build connections with local artists and provide opportunities for mentorship and artistic development in printmaking.

The goals of this project are to foster community connection in the Queen Mary Park area, promote awareness of SNAP as a resource and artistic community, and add to the public appreciation of artistic works through the public display of hand-printed posters. SNAP is always looking to connect with and support artists new to printmaking and in particular aims to provide opportunities for emerging, BIPOC, and LGBTQ2+ artists through this project. Posters can be text and/or image-based, should engage with themes of community and connection, and spread messages or images of hope, care, support, or desire for change from the artist and for the Queen Mary Park community.

Poster Project Information:

• SNAP is seeking proposals from Artists who work in any medium who live in or have a connection to Queen Mary Park to develop and screen print (with support) a limited edition of posters to be distributed throughout the Queen Mary Park neighbourhood.
• Selected Artists will be provided with a 3 session screen printing mentorship with a SNAP artist – no prior printmaking experience required.
• This project will take place between July to September 2021 – posters will  be printed and ready to be distributed by September 2021
• All required equipment, materials, and training will be provided by SNAP.
• An artist fee of $500.00 will be paid to each artist selected.

HOW TO APPLY*:

– A short artist biography (tell us a bit about you as an artist)

-5 – 10 Images of your artwork (any format is fine)

-A short description of your relationship to the Queen Mary Park neighbourhood along with an initial idea or proposal for your poster (this could be written, sketched or any other form of mock-up or proposal)

The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) is an artist-run-centre dedicated to printmaking and new to the Queen Mary Park neighbourhood in Edmonton as of February 2020.

With a contemporary public art gallery, printmaking studio with specialized equipment, and educational focus, SNAP provides our community with a unique forum for the production and exhibition of printmaking, print media, and image culture. Since its inception in 1982, SNAP has grown to become one of Canada’s most prominent centres for the exhibition, production, and innovation in printmaking.
