Engage your creativity in community through an exploration of simple artist book formats, silkscreen, and community-based practice with artist Chelsey Campbell! Over a single weekend, participants will explore the generative possibilities of creating a screen-printed Instabook zine. Beginning with a collaborative workshop, participants will build the visual foundation of their instabooks together through collage, drawing, and playing with the theme ‘In Community.” Participants will then individually build text responses to the collaborative visuals through a guided writing workshop, exploring a variety of creative writing strategies employed by contemporary artists and poets. Throughout the course of the weekend, participants will develop the skills to build dynamic layouts for instabooks, engage with a writing practice that lends voice, rhythm and pace to their work, and explore the creative process of silkscreen for artist books from ideation to the final fold! The workshop will conclude with a Zine Exchange, with each individual leaving with an edition of two of their own work, and one instabook created in community by another participant.
*No experience is necessary, this course is recommended for beginner and intermediate artists. All ability levels are encouraged to register.

SNAP is pleased to offer scholarship opportunities to individuals for whom the costs of printmaking courses are a barrier. SNAP scholarships are intended for artists and individuals who would otherwise be unable to access our courses but whose creative practice would benefit from the high quality instruction and technical skill building provided from taking a printmaking course at SNAP. SNAP printmaking classes and workshops are offered on a cost recovery basis and range in price based on materials and duration. A SNAP scholarship will cover the full cost of the course instruction and the basic material fee.
