The Garden of Earthly Delights is a sculptural installation exploring advertising and commodity fetishism, specifically how ideas of animism are encoded in the way that objects are designed, imaged and displayed. Included in the exhibition are a series of large scale, hand-cut collages made with hundreds of clippings from magazines and sales catalogues. In these works, these ideas are further developed and explored against the backdrop of a fictional clash between the turn of the 20th Century modernist architect, Adolf Loos, and his greatest nemesis, Art Nouveau. Juan Ortiz-apuy completed his Master of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Concordia. He has also had multiple teaching appointments at both institutions and the University of Manitoba. Juan Ortiz-apuy wishes to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts for their financial support. Opening Reception: Friday, August 26, 7-9 pm. Artist’s talk: 6 pm. SNAP is happy to provide this programming at no cost to participants. We hope you will consider making a donation to keep programs accessible in the future. Donate
