In SNAP’s community Gallery, Eva Schneider, SNAP’s last emerging artist in residence from 2012, presents work on a theme Edmonton is all too familiar with: Urban Sprawl. In the work created from her residency, Eva constructs her experience of purchasing a home in Edmonton and the accessibility of choice offered to homebuyers. Those in the market can choose from limited finishes, suburban locations and rather bland design options of pre-designed cookie cutter homes. Schneider examines these common neighbourhood constructs by creating her own prefab homes. Selecting a variety of homes from around Edmonton she has reconstructed them through etching and sculpted them into small-scale models that will have you humming the tune of one particular popular TV show.

Eva Schneider graduated from the University of Alberta with a focus in Printmaking in 2012 and was one of three recipients of SNAP’s emerging artist residencies. Currently she is the Children’s Program Manager of E4C’s Artstart afterschool program.

Opening Reception: March 13, 7–9 pm.

SNAP is happy to provide this programming at no cost to participants.

We hope you will consider making a donation to keep programs accessible in the future.
