Please note: this class has been moved to May 2022 from the previous date.

Gain new printing skills by exploring collage methods and by trying out CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) layer separation in screen printing with Artist Agata Garbowska. First get an understanding of how to prepare images for colour separation printing, see how to mix CMYK inks, and go through the steps involved with printing a four-layer image in process inks.

Explore working on various materials and surfaces such as plexi-glass, wood panel, and washi papers to become knowledgeable in how to print successfully on an array of substrates. Afterwards work collaboratively as a group by selecting from everyone’s prints to create unique collaged scenes.

This informative and interactive weekend workshop will give you the know-how and skills to later try CMYK techniques yourself, incorporate collage and materials into your prints, and expand on your screen printing skill set whether you are a beginner looking to book one-to-one printing sessions or are a practicing print-artists wanting to explore further ideas and image-making.

Participants will send a colour landscape image in advance of the workshop to use for their printed samples. Participants can bring in their own materials if they wish as well as print on the provided 8” x 10” panels and washi papers provided.

*No experience is necessary, this class is recommended for beginner and intermediate artists. All ability levels are encouraged to register.

About the artist

Agata Garbowska is an emerging artist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, AB). Her practice is informed by general unease and steadily growing concern over current and impending ecological disaster caused by climate change. Agata combines painting, printmaking, and sculpture into fragmented installations that present the eerie moments where the impact of unsustainable resource extraction is echoed in our infrastructure. Agata received her BFA from the University of Alberta in 2017 and in April 2021 completed an Emerging Artist Residency at SNAP.
