This demo will be hosted online.
Join artist Erica Vaskevicius during SNAP’s online interactive demonstration to explore Japanese bookbinding techniques by constructing 3 sample books, each highlighting a unique traditional binding. Over the course of the afternoon you will learn about Orihon – folded binding, Daifuku Cho – sewn binding, and Yotsume Toji – four-hole binding. Variations on these book bindings will be developed throughout the demonstration, allowing for personalization and creative expression to be integrated into each participants’ final project. Participants will produce their own beautiful book using the binding of their choice.
A bookbinding supply kit will be available for purchase from SNAP for local participants and a further supply and tool list will be provided for those needing to purchase additional items locally. For anyone who wishes to use their own existing materials and tools can do so and follow along with the material list that will be sent upon registration.
*DEADLINE FOR PURCHASING SUPPLY KIT FROM SNAP IS NOVEMBER 17!
*No experience is necessary, this class is recommended for beginner and intermediate artists. All ability levels are encouraged to register.
