This demo will be hosted online.
Keep seeing beautiful blue prints and wonder what all the hype is about cyanotype? Now is your chance to learn all the skills you need to create cyanotypes from the comfort of your own home!
Artist Sydney Lancaster will show you how exciting (and addictive!) cyanotype is, and how to achieve amazing results using a variety of methods and different materials. The first portion of SNAP’s online interactive demonstration will cover a little history of the process, and simple DIY techniques for creating cyanotypes using pretreated fabric, and how to expose your light sensitive materials using your window or the outdoors. After learning the basics, you will be shown how to mix your own chemistry, coat both paper and fabric, and then learn how to use SNAP’s exposure unit and darkroom to expand the creative potential of cyanotype printing. As an added bonus, this online demonstration will also present a short tour of Sydney Lancaster and Scott Smallwood’s collaborative project MACROMAREAL (a rising tide lifts all boats) in SNAP’s Main Gallery, which includes a selection of Sydney’s cyanotypes on a range of materials.
This one-evening online demonstration session will give you the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to start creating cyanotypes everywhere!
Get exposed to cyanotype, and learn about this all-ages and easily accessible printmaking process.
*Participants of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to register, basic and beginners skills will be covered as well as intermediate and more advanced techniques. A material list will be sent to participants if they wish to create after the demonstration session.
