Collagraph is derived from the Greek word “kolla” meaning to glue and “graph” meaning to draw. Collagraph is both a relief and intaglio process that is inexpensive and allows for versatile printing methods as well as room for exploration. During this 4-week class students will learn how to create a matrix from heavy paperboard and adhere flat objects and materials to create an intriguing image using additive methods and also incorporating reductive methods of cutting and removing parts of the matrix. Artist Angela Snieder will instruct students on how to create both single plate prints and multi plate prints using intaglio and relief printing methods. This process is relatively inexpensive and low tech so it is ideal for both artists and educators who have access to an intaglio press. No experience is necessary. This class is recommended for both beginners and intermediate artists.
