This workshop covers the basic techniques of Western-style hand papermaking, including: pulp preparation, sheet forming, inclusions, manipulation, couching, pressing and drying.  Participants will learn from experts from the St. Albert Paper Arts Guild how to break down fibres using a blender and the Hollander beater. Fibres include cotton, abaca, linen, blue jean, etc.

This one-day workshop is intended for people who have never made paper before, for those who have taught themselves from books but have never had any hands-on time with an experienced papermaker, and for those who are looking for a general refresher course.

Participants will pull paper from various communal vats that they have concocted; from single fibres to multiple fibres with inclusions.  Participants will pull approximately 30 to 60 sheets of 6”x9” paper and there will also be the opportunity to make other sizes of sheets.

*Please bring 4 large towels and any inclusions you would like to try, all other supplies provided. SNAP will arrange carpooling between participants to go to the Multicraft Studio at St. Albert Place, St. Albert.
