Ambar Azcorra Artist in Residence Emerging Artist in Residence 2023-24 www.instagram.com/arteazcorra SNAP Emerging Artist in Residence 2023-24Ambar Azcorra is a multidisciplinary artist from Mexico, currently based in Edmonton, Canada. She is a recent graduate student from the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design programme. Through the practices of printmaking, photography, drawing, and ceramics, she explores the themes of identity, surrealism, consciousness, and the human experience. She works with personal and intimate themes from her own experiences to create a dialogue between the viewers, the artist, and the art.In the past year, I have had the opportunity to participate in two artist residencies hosted by SNAP, where I’ve explored my project: looking inside/adentro.My project, looking inside/adentro, is a profound exploration of the human emotional experience. It is a visual investigation, a research method in its own right. Through gestural etches and photolithography methods of printmaking, I aim to juxtapose images of the mundane human experience with visceral representations of our internal selves. This project is a testament to the depth of our emotions, a visual representation of what they could look like within us. It is a tribute to the vibrant, intense experience of being alive.
